On Saturday, May 6, at 4 a.m., Duke's Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be performing phase I of the upgrade to Duke's central paging system infrastructure. This upgrade will affect Duke Hospital and Duke University only. Phase II, is scheduled for later in May and details will be shared in a future memo.
During phase I of the upgrade, Duke will be operating on its backup paging system. Therefore, all pages will be processed and calls routed by the OIT Telephone Operators (such as code calls) will be performed as usual.
The upgrade will require performing certain tasks prior to the actual cutover which will affect individual users. During the one-hour window (9 p.m. and 10 p.m.) on Friday, May 5, please note the following restrictions:
- Sending a Page: Paging Web (Duke's paging web interface, Smart Web) will not be available to lookup users and/or send pages. Staff will still be able to send pages by dialing the 7-digit or 10-digit number or by calling the telephone operator. The paging greeting will alert callers that we are operating on the backup system.
- Receiving a Page: The receiving of pages will not be affected.
- Paging Status: During the 1 hour window (9-10 p.m.) any sign-outs, status changes and exceptions will not be recognized, therefore making every user "on page." Users will not be able to change their paging status and exceptions (sign-out) during this time period so users should process any status changes prior to 8:45 p.m., Friday, May 5. Any status changes needed between the hours of 8:45 p.m., Friday, May 5, and 4:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6, should call the OIT Paging Coordinators at 919-684-6377.
- On-call Schedules & Calendaring: On-call schedules and calendaring will not be available via Smart Web. Note: Telephone Operators will have the ability to view the information as needed.
For questions in advance of this upgrade, please contact John Robinson at 684-3830. If you experience problems during the upgrade, please contact the OIT Communications supervisor at 684-2588.
