Forum in Duke Chapel to focus on Campus Culture

Event open to members of the Duke community

A diverse group of students, faculty and staff will participate in a special forum on Thursday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in Duke Chapel to discuss the campus culture in light of issues surrounding the situation with the men's lacrosse team.

The event, called "A Conversation on Campus Culture," is open to all members of the Duke community. The Chapel discussion will allow students, faculty and staff members to provide input on steps the new Campus Cultural Initiative might consider. President Richard H. Brodhead will participate. Other panelists will include junior Chrissie Gorman; senior Dinushika Mohottige; Mark Anthony Neal, African and African-American Studies; junior Andrew Nowobilski; Sue Wasiolek, dean of students; and Sam Wells, dean of the chapel.

Prior to the chapel event, there will be small group discussions on the topic at 6 p.m. in the Bryan Center's Von Canon Room C. Pizza will be served. Participants will then move to the Chapel for the 7 p.m. event. People are not required to attend the pre-event in order to participate in the Chapel event.

In addition, following the forum, participants can return to the Bryan Center for cookies, coffee and more conversation. Laptop computers will be available at the Bryan Center so participants can offer their suggestions and input for the Campus Culture Initiative.

Limited child care will be available during the event for children ages 5- 12. Reservations must be made in advance. The registration form and frequently asked questions are available online or by contacting Doris Jordan at 919-660-3137.

The forum is sponsored by The Kenan Institute for Ethics and is intended for members of the Duke community. No cameras or recording devices will be allowed inside Duke Chapel. For additional details about the forum, please visit http://kenan.ethics.duke.edu.
