Savings on Auto, Home Insurance May Be in the Mail

Ever wonder why you get several auto and home insurance mailings each year? So did more than 1,700 faculty and staff before they compared rates and signed up for the benefit.

Duke faculty and staff have the opportunity to participate in an affordable, voluntary auto and home insurance program offered by MetLife Insurance that offers discounted insurance at costs that may be less than what they receive through their current insurance carrier.

An overview of the auto and home insurance benefit, as well as information on how to enroll, will be mailed to the home address of eligible faculty and staff in late February.

Because individual policies expire at different times throughout the year, information about this benefit is sent to eligible Duke faculty and staff four times a year. The quarterly mailings help ensure that faculty and staff have the information they need when it is most useful -- during renewal time.

Auto and home insurance protects you in the event of an accident or natural disaster that damages personal property that you own, or against personal liability in the case of property damage or personal injury to another person as a result of your actions.

Experts recommend that people compare their auto and home insurance premiums at least once a year to make sure they are getting their money's worth. Auto and home insurance rates are predicted to be on the rise during the coming year, so many employees may find it to their financial advantage to switch carriers.

Faculty and staff scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week are eligible to apply for coverage. Premiums can be paid through payroll deduction.
