Duke Students to Unveil Froshlife iMovies Feb. 10

The Froshlife iMovie competition challenges teams of first-year students to write, direct, act in and edit their own digital movies

The public is invited to attend on Thursday, Feb. 10, the premiere of several short movies produced by teams of Duke University first-year students.

The Froshlife iMovie competition challenges teams of first-year students to write, direct, act in and edit their own digital movies. Participating teams receive a digital video camera, an Apple PowerBook with editing software and two weeks to complete their film.

The films will be shown in the Richard White Auditorium on Duke's East Campus at 8 p.m. Feb. 10. The third year of this competition is a joint effort of Duke's Office of Information Technology, Office of Student Affairs and Apple Computer as part of a Duke-wide initiative to incorporate innovative technology into university life.

The list of judges includes Duke Provost Peter Lange; Tracey Futhey, Duke's vice president for information technology; Sue Wasiolek, assistant vice president for student affairs; and Duke students and Froshlife alumni Rahul Lalmalani, Billy Cano and Yoni Riemer.

Each member of the winning team will receive a technology-oriented prize; previous winners received Apple iPods. Those attending the premiere will have the chance to win T-shirts and door prizes as well.
