Police seek information in Wednesday morning's robbery on Central Campus

A Duke University visiting instructor who was walking on a path near the Sarah P. Duke Gardens was robbed Wednesday morning when a man stepped into her path and pointed a blue-colored gun at her, Duke Police reported.

The incident happened about 8:10 a.m. near Lewis Street, on Duke's Central Campus. According to Duke Police spokeswoman Maj. Phyllis Cooper, the female instructor was walking toward the gardens when she was confronted by the man, who took her wallet, pushed her and ran toward Anderson Street. The woman was not injured.

The suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s who was wearing a black faded T-shirt, blue jeans and a backpack across his chest.

Duke Police ask anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to call 911 on campus or 684-2444. They also remind students and others to follow safety precautions.

Cooper said police would issue additional information when it becomes available.
