Media Advisory: Final Four Activities at Duke

A welcome-home celebration for the womens basketball team (win or lose) is planned for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cameron Indoor Stadium; the public is invited

Sunday evening's semi-final game between the Duke women's basketball team and Tennessee will be broadcast on large-screen televisions in the Great Hall on West Campus and in the East Union Marketplace on East Campus. The game is scheduled to begin shortly after 7 p.m.

Should Duke win Sunday and advance to Tuesday night's NCAA finals, that game will be shown at the same locations. The game is scheduled to begin about 8:30 p.m.

Television crews who wish to be present at either location during the games are asked to pick up special news media credentials by 5 p.m. Friday at the Duke Office of News & Communication, 615 Chapel Drive. Television crews are asked not to shine lights while the game is in progress because it will disturb people's ability to watch. Lights are permitted before and after the game, at halftime and when there is a stop in the action. News media are not permitted in residential dorms at any time.

If Duke were to win the national championship, Duke students may celebrate with a bonfire in the West Campus residential quad area afterward. The city fire marshal has issued a permit for a bonfire in front of House P on the main residential quad. There will be limited parking for TV trucks at the top of Chapel Drive. Other media must park in the lot behind the Allen Building, off Flowers Drive. Again, special news media credentials will be required and can be picked up at the Office of News & Communication prior to 5 p.m. Tuesday. For the safety of students, television crews are asked not to shine lights near the bonfire, and access to the main section of West Campus will be limited to Duke students, employees and faculty with Duke ID badges.

News office personnel on duty Tuesday night will be director David Jarmul (page 800-980-2643), associate director Keith Lawrence (page 970-9962), and radio-TV manager Cabell Smith (page 970-2036).

A welcome-home celebration for the women's basketball team (win or lose) is planned for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The welcome-home rally will be open to the public.
