Media Advisory: 33,000 Cans Of Food Collected For Needy

Money raised during Duke's annual holiday food drive benefits the Food Bank of North Carolina

At 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, approximately 33,000 cans of food to be donated to the Food Bank of North Carolina will be picked up in the loading dock area behind the Kroger supermarket, 3457 Hillsborough Road, Durham. The media is invited to be present during the pickup.

The money to purchase the cans of food was collected during Duke University's annual holiday food drive. For the past three years, the Duke Student Government and Duke's Facilities Management Department (FMD) have sponsored the food drive and donated the proceeds to the Food Bank of North Carolina, a nonprofit organization that provides food to 34 counties in central and eastern North Carolina. Duke students, faculty and employees, as well as Duke contractors, were involved in this year's food drive.
