Jazz Concert To Feature Chevy Chase On Piano

DURHAM, N.C. - Actor, writer and humorist Chevy Chase will perform an evening of music and comedy at Duke University's Page Auditorium on Tuesday, April 23.

Chase is slated to share the stage with the Duke Jazz Ensemble, led by saxophonist Paul Jeffrey, a Duke professor of the practice of music. The 8 p.m. event is a special performance to support the university's Jazz Studies Program.

Tickets are $20, $25 and $30 for the general public, and are available by calling the University Box Office at 684-4444 or by accessing www.tickets.duke.edu. Admission for children and students is $8, $13 and $18. Group discounts are available by calling the box office.

One of the original cast members, and first head writer, of the hit television series "Saturday Night Live," Chase followed his television and live stage successes with a string of popular films, including "Fletch," "Caddyshack," "The Three Amigos" and the "National Lampoon's Vacation" series.

For decades Chase has entertained friends and select audiences as a pianist. After hearing him perform at a charity event that also featured the Duke Jazz Ensemble, the ensemble's director, Jeffrey, invited him to play at Duke with the ensemble last year. Following the success of the 2001 concert, which drew a near capacity audience to Page Auditorium, Chase accepted an invitation from Jeffrey to return this year.

Chase has declined to accept any fee for his performance so that income from the concert can support the Jazz Studies Program at Duke. The concert is sponsored by the Office of University Life at Duke.
