The Sanford School of Public Policy, named for the late N.C. governor, U.S. senator and Duke president Terry Sanford, graduates about 175 majors each year, making it one of the nation's largest public policy undergraduate programs. The school is also home to master's programs in public policy and international development policy, and a Ph.D. program. Its many areas of policy expertise include environment and energy, global governance and development, communications, child and family, global health and leadership. The school is complemented by the political science department and other academic units across the university.
