Duke News & Communications

Duke has been renewing and refreshing its faculty this year, reflecting the high priority it places on enhancing the university’s academic mission even during difficult economic times.

Arts and Sciences alone hired 30 new faculty members in 2010, ranging from Ingrid Daubechies – who has been called "the world’s most famous female mathematician" – to Claire Conceison, an expert on Chinese theater.

Duke’s professional schools have added diverse experts as well, often joining together to appoint scholars whose work cuts across traditional fields. For instance, Peter Ubel, a physician who studies how patients and others make decisions, is now working within both the Fuqua School of Business and the Sanford School of Public Policy.

Duke Today has been profiling these and other new faculty members since the semester began. It invites you to take a moment to meet those you missed.
