DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke junior epeeist Sarah Collins is in 24th place after the first day of the NCAA Fencing Championships at Ohio State University.
Collins went 5-15 on her first day of competition and enters the second day of competition on Friday with eight bouts remaining. Collins, in her third consecutive NCAA appearance, logged a -15 touch differential Thursday and will look to improve that mark with a solid showing Friday.
Collins is the lone member of the Duke women's fencing team competing at the NCAA Championships. Following the conclusion of the women's competition Friday, Duke will deploy four members of the men's team -- Joseph Lam (foil), Christopher Monti (saber), Dylan Nollner (epee) and Alessio Santoro (epee) -- to compete in the men's competition Saturday and Sunday.
