Duke in 13th at Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, GA -- The Duke men's golf team shot a six-over 294 Saturday to slip to 13th overall with a 36-hole total of 591 (+15) at the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club (par 72, 6,947 yards). Junior Turner Southey-Gordon led the way for the Blue Devils with even-par 72 in the second round.

Host Georgia Southern posted a 12-under 276 Saturday to grab the tournament lead with a 14-under 562. UAB is four shots back followed by College of Charleston (-9), North Florida (-7), Texas (-3) and Central Florida (-3). Kramer Hickok (Texas) and Martin Rohwer (UAB) share the individual lead at six-under with five others one shot back at five-under.

Senior Austin Cody is tied for 33rd while competing as an individual after shooting a two-over 74 in the second round. After suffering three bogeys over the first four holes, Cody battled all the way back to even-par following back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and No. 6. He dropped two strokes with a double-bogey on No. 8 before closing the round with a pair. Cody sits a two-over 146 entering Sunday's final round.

Michael Ricaurte is tied for 50th with a five-over 149 after posting a 75 in the second round. The Columbus, Ohio, native had three birdies, 11 pars and three bogeys on the day but also suffered a triple-bogey.

Freshman Alexander Matlari shot a two-over 74 Saturday and is tied for 58th with a six-over 150. After playing the opening six holes at one-under, he went through a double-bogey, bogey, bogey stretch to make the turn at three-over. The Leimen, Germany, native fell to +4 after a bogey on No. 3 before carding an eagle on the par 5 seventh hole and a birdie on No. 8 to get back to one-over. Matlari could not continue to momentum on the final round finishing with a bogey on the day.

Max Greyserman, a freshman from New Jersey, fired a one-over 73 and enters the final round tied for 64th with a seven-over 151. He bogeyed his opening hole of the round before recording birdies on No. 12 and No. 17 to get to one-under. Greyserman closed on the front nine with eight pars but also had a double-bogey on No. 6 to drop two strokes.

Junior Turner Southey-Gordon had Duke's best round of the day with an even-par 72. He got off to a terrific start with seven pars and two birdies (No. 11 & No. 18) to make the turn at two-under. After falling back to even-par with bogeys on No. 1 and No. 3, Southey-Gordon trimmed two shots off his scorecard with an eagle on the par 5 seventh hole. He ran into trouble with bogeys on the final two holes to finish at even-par.

One day after carding a three-under 69, Motin Yeung never got on-track en route to an 85.

Duke opens final round play Sunday at 8:30 a.m. on the back nine at Forest Heights Country Club. The Blue Devils will be paired with Maryland and North Texas.
