Leading Off with Duke Baseball: Andrew Istler

Want to learn more about Duke RHP Andrew Istler? Don't miss the latest installment of 'Leading Off with Duke Baseball' here.

As a sophomore, Istler took over the role as Duke's closer and finished the season with eight saves to his credit. His eight saves were the most by a Blue Devil pitcher since Alex Hassan also recorded eight in 2009. Istler is one of just six Blue Devil pitchers to record eight or more saves in a single season since the stat was first recorded in 1969.

Istler enters his junior campaign with 11 career saves, a mark which ranks tied for fourth in program history. He is two saves shy of tying the Duke career record of 13 held by Hassan, Vaughn Schill and Mark Sikorski.

Istler and the Blue Devil open the 2014 season with a three game series Feb. 14-16 against Binghamton at Jack Coombs Field.
