DURHAM, N.C. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released the preseason national coaches' poll for the 2013 cross country season Tuesday, Aug. 27. Duke women's cross country team appeared fourth in the poll, with 321 votes. The ACC tied the Pac-12 with five teams nominated for the preseason poll.
Duke's fourth-place ranking led all ACC schools other than Florida State, who received 343 votes and a second-place ranking. Notre Dame earned 143 votes and N.C. State garnered 109 votes to rank the teams 18th and 22nd respectively. Boston College rounded out the ACC schools with 68 votes, and the team ranked 25th in the preseason poll.
The Blue Devils finished seventh at last year's NCAA National Championship meet and return five of the seven finishers from the competition.
Duke opens the season this Saturday, Aug. 31 against N.C. Central in the Bull City Classic at home, before traveling to Cary, N.C. Friday, Sept. 20 to participate in the Adidas XC Challenge.
The USTFCCCA are scheduled to release the next coaches' poll Tuesday, Sept. 17.
