Liston Selected to USA World University Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following three days of trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., Duke University rising senior Tricia Liston has been named to the 2013 USA Basketball Women's World University Games team on Sunday.  

Along with Liston on the squad will be Ariel Massengale (Tennessee), Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (UConn), Bria Hartley (UConn), ReShanda Gray (California), Cassie Harberts (USC), Theresa Plaisance (LSU), Odyssey Sims (Baylor), Crystal Bradford (Central Michigan), Aaryn Ellenberg (Oklahoma), Jordan Hooper (Nebraska) and Shoni Schimmel (Louisville).  The 2013 World University Games women's basketball competition will be held July 8-15 in Kazan, Russia, and the team will regroup in Colorado Springs for training June 25-July 1.

Liston averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals this past season for the Blue Devils.  A native of River Forest, Ill., Liston set a school record with 80 three-pointers made and ranked third nationally with a 46.5 three-point field goal percentage.  The 6-1 guard posted a 93.1 free throw percentage, which is the best in ACC history, as she hit 81-of-87 free throws.  Liston registered six games with 20 or more points and 13 contests with 17 or more points on the year.  She earned Norfolk Regional All-Tournament Team, All-ACC Second Team, All-ACC Tournament Second Team and All-ACC Academic Team accolades on the year.  

Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale will lead the World University Games squad along with assistant coaches Brian Giorgis  (Marist) and Coquese Washington (Penn State).  

Organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and held every other year, the WUGs is a multi-sport competition open to men and women who are between the ages of 17 and 24 (born 01/01/89 through 12/31/95). The USA women's team is comprised of U.S. citizens who are currently enrolled in college and have remaining eligibility.

The USA has been placed in Group B for the 2013 World University Games and will open at 12:30 p.m. (EDT) on July 8 against Belarus, followed by Czech Republic at 12:30 p.m. (EDT) on July 9 and its final preliminary-round opponent, Brazil, at 4:30 a.m. (EDT) on July 10. Following the preliminary round, the first and second placed teams in each of the four pools will advance to the medal quarterfinals to compete for 1st-8th places, while the remaining teams will compete for 9th-24th places. The quarterfinals will be played on July 12, with the semifinals on July 13 and the gold medal game on July 15.
 
USA Basketball women's teams have participated in 16 prior World University Games and have collected a record eight gold medals, six silvers and one bronze medal.
