Hello Duke Fans!
Today was filled with stunning Slovenian nature (and it was the perfect weather for it) as we traveled from Maribor to Bled, Slovenia! We started the day with a hike through Slovenia's only national park, Triglav National Park. The park is famous for its 13-meter waterfall and its river's astounding clarity and beauty. The river impressed us with its strength and the way it crashed and roared against the rocks.
When we arrived in Bled, the group split up and did many different activities. Most went to Lake Bled and hiked to Bled Castle (built a thousand years ago), which overlooks the lake atop a hill. Others rowed out to The Church of the Assumption, which sits on an island in the middle of the lake. Others also shopped around the city or sat at cafes enjoying the lovely town atmosphere.
We all came together again and dined at a local Slovenian restaurant then we took a beautiful stroll through the town of Bled. They served us a typical Slovenian meal consisting of weiner snitzel, pork, potato fries and steamed broccoli and carrots. We also enjoyed strawberry crepes for dessert!
Chelsea Cook's Thoughts on the Day
“Maggie, Jeme, Emily and I rowed to the island in the middle of the lake. It took longer to row out to the island than it seemed, but it was so worth it. Lake Bled was really pretty, and I enjoyed the view of the mountains. Emily, Maggie and I even jumped into the freezing water! It was just a great day.”
