McCurdy Tabbed Academic All-District III

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke junior Ali McCurdy was named to the Capital One Academic All-District III team as announced by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) Thursday.

The honor is the first for McCurdy, a 5-7 libero/defensive specialist majoring in Sociology. Over the past three seasons she has anchored the Duke backline, earning ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors a season ago.

The Tampa, Fla., native currently leads the ACC with 579 digs and an average of 5.46 digs per set, which also ranks 21st nationally. McCurdy has picked up at least 20 digs in 15 of Duke's 27 matches and has reached 30 digs three times this season, including a 37-dig performance at Miami.

McCurdy is also on pace to become the second player in Blue Devil history with 2,000 career digs. The only player to average over five digs per set for her career, she currently ranks second in the school record books with 1,852.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

McCurdy and the Blue Devils face No. 13 Florida State tonight at 7 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
