DURHAM, N.C. - For the eighth time this season, Duke University freshman
Elizabeth Williams was voted the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week on Monday, after leading the Blue Devils to a victory over Virginia Tech and a two-point loss at eighth-ranked Maryland last week.
With her eight ACC Rookie of the Week selections this season, she is now tied for second all-time in the ACC along with Virginia's Monica Wright. She is one away from matching Wake Forest's Tracy Connor's record of nine back in 1992-93 with one week remaining in the regular season.
A native of Virginia Beach, Va., Williams averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals on the week. The 6-3 center hit 52.6 percent of her field goal attempts in both games. At Maryland, she totaled a team-high 19 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, one steal and one assist, while hitting 10-of-19 field goals. Against Virginia Tech, Williams totaled 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal and one blocked shot. With her 98 career blocked shots, she moved into seventh place on the ACC single season blocked shot list and ninth on Duke's career list.
Seventh-ranked Duke will next host fifth-ranked Miami on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7:00 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The winner will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament. Both Miami and Duke are tied at 13-1 in league action.
