Campbell Nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke junior Tara Campbell is in the running for Shutout Central's 2011 Women's NCAA Goalkeeper of the Year as announced by the organization Wednesday.

The Blue Devil standout is one of 10 players in contention, a list which includes Justine Bernier from Alabama, Aubrey Bledsoe from Wake Forest, Colleen Boyd from Oregon State, Adrianna Franch from Oklahoma State, Bianca Henninger from Santa Clara, Chantel Jones from Virginia, Natalie Kulla from Marquette, Emily Oliver from Stanford and Aline Reis from Central Florida.

Campbell has enjoyed a career year in 2011 as the Duke goalkeeper has notched 13 shutouts, good for the program single-season record. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native now owns 27 career shutouts, placing her third in the Duke all-time records. A 2011 second team All-ACC selection, Campbell is also second in the conference in goals against average (0.43), first in save percentage (.870), seventh in saves (67) and third in shutouts (13).

The third-ranked Blue Devils (21-3-1) have advanced to the NCAA College Cup for the second time in program history and will face No. 7 Wake Forest (18-3-4) Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m., from the KSU Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com and will also be aired on ESPNU on tape delay Sunday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m.
