The workshop series begins Sept. 6 with a session hosted by Kim Hewitt, Vice President for Institutional Equity and Chief Diversity Officer, on equitable hiring practices and strategies for how to increase the diversity of your unit and foster community.

Other sessions cover topics include foundational topics of diversity, equity and inclusion, generational diversity, how to recognize and interrupt ableism in the workplace, discrimination and harassment, and how gender and sexuality show up in the workplace for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual+ community members.

All sessions vary between one and a half and three hours, and are led by OIE staff members. Space for all workshops is capped at 36 participants, which creates a safe and intimate environment where all can feel comfortable.

“We keep them small intentionally,“ Royster said. “We want people to feel and develop a sense of trust and connection.”

Resource Library

In addition to in-person workshops, OIE has updated a list of resources for Duke staff, faculty and students to learn more on their own about topics like cultural humility, pronouns, implicit bias, how to foster a culture of belonging and more.

The site, which is managed and curated by OIE staff, also includes a racial justice, racial equity and anti-racism reading list.
