Duke in Pictures: A Gingerbread Smart Home

Texas students followed Duke project in a tasty way

Students in Leslie Smith's Gifted Class at Williams Elementary in Magnolia, Texas, show off their gingerbread "Smart Homes."

The students have corresponded throughout the year with the Duke Smart Home Program's Community Advisory Board member Tom Rose about the Smart Home and its features and created these gingerbread houses to show off what they have learned.

Designed by Duke students through a strategic partnership with The Home Depot, the 6,000-square-foot home features a variety of eco-friendly and high-tech elements and houses 10 students. The award-winning building opened in 2007.
