Comments Invited for Regular Review of Benjamin Reese

Vice President Benjamin Reese

The Faculty Handbook requires regular reviews of senior administrators of the university through a committee that conducts a performance review and submits a confidential report to the President. Typically these reviews occur in the fourth year of the administrator's five-year term. Such a review committee has been appointed by President Richard H. Brodhead to review Benjamin Reese, vice president for institutional equity.

Law Professor Katharine Bartlett will serve as committee chair. Other members of the committee include: Brenda Armstrong (School of Medicine), Charles Clotfelter (Public Policy), Denise Evans (Human Resources), Linda George (Sociology), David Jarmul (News & Communications), and Kevin Sowers (Health System.)

An important part of the review process is the gathering of comments from the university's many constituencies. Comments on performance and suggestions for the future are important to the committee's work.

The committee invites employees, faculty, students and other members of the Duke community to share your thoughts by email or letter, or communicate orally to any committee member. Communication should include the nature of your interactions with Reese to understand the context of your comments as fully as possible. The committee will discuss responses and a summary will be included in the written report to the President. All communications will be kept in confidence by the committee.

The Committee would appreciate receiving comments by Feb. 20.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this important process.
