Work-related Injury Summary Posted Online

The Occupational and Environmental Safety Office (OESO) has recently published summary information about work-related injuries and illnesses that occurred last year at Duke.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that these summaries be available for viewing from Feb. 1 until (at least) April 30. The reports for all Duke entities can be viewed at http://www.safety.duke.edu/OHS/OSHALogSummaries.htm.

In departments where employees have limited or no access to the internet, supervisors should print and post the summary for their work area in an easily accessible place where employee notices are usually posted.

Employees must report any work-related injuries or illnesses within 24 hours. Employees can go to http://www.hr.duke.edu/workcomp, select their work area, and fill out the online report. (Health system employees will be directed to the appropriate Safety Reporting System). These reports help managers and OESO to recognize hazards and improve safety for everyone at Duke.

To further improve safety at work, employees are encouraged to report safety hazards before they result in an injury. If you notice a hazard or safety concern, report it to your supervisor so he or she can address the issue. If additional expertise is needed, contact OESO at 684-2794 or safety@mc.duke.edu.
