Eight Undergraduate Students Selected for University Scholars Program

Eight incoming undergraduate students have been named University Scholars at Duke University, an award that covers full tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for eight semesters at Duke.

The full value of each scholarship is estimated to be more than $260,000 over four years.

The University Scholars Program includes undergraduate, graduate and professional students who share an interest in original research, collaborative thinking and innovative scholarship. Graduate and professional students will be selected over the coming months.

The Class of 2020 recipients are:

-- Darya Andreichenko of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, a graduate of Gymnazium 38.

-- Gabriella Maureen Apeadu of Flushing, New York, a graduate of Bronx High School of Science and daughter of Elizabeth Apeadu and Gregory Dupiton.

-- Martin Gonzalo Cala of Pembroke Pines, Florida, a graduate of West Broward High School  and son of Martha Cala and Juan-Martin Cala.

-- Shanjiao Jiang of Houston, Texas, a graduate of Cypress Falls High School and daughter of Shuyan Bi.

-- Kezia Ann Matson of Oak Island, North Carolina, a graduate of South Brunswick High School and daughter of Rebecca Jones and Steven Matson.

-- Nima Mohammadi of Stony Brook, New York, a graduate of Ward Melville High School and son of Artemis Danehkar and Majid Mohammadi.

-- Valerie Elaine Muensterman of Evansville, Indiana, a graduate of Mater Dei High School and daughter of Cindy Muensterman and Jerry Muensterman.

-- Bigyan Babu Regmi of Gorkha, Nepal, a graduate of the Sussex Coast College in Hastings, United Kingdom.
