Innovative Ways Duke Faculty Are Teaching Online

It's not just computer science -- art, business and health faculty are experimenting online

The Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) has produced a video showing a selection of the ways Duke faculty are teaching online on topics such as computer science, business, art, health and engineering.

In the decade since online instruction started to spread in popularity at Duke, both in the classroom and through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), faculty in a variety of disciplines have tried the waters and found it both challenging and rewarding.

“The fact that 7,000 people around the world came together as a community on this topic of socially engaged, public art is pretty amazing,” said Art, Art History and Visual Studies professor Pedro Lasch, discussing his MOOC on public art.

CIT has resources to help interested faculty members learn about online course.  One piece of advice: Faculty should know that when creating an online course, remember that for learners, the online experience is not a duplicate of the classroom. For some simple starter rules, click here.
