Eleven Students from the Carolinas Selected for B.N. Duke Scholarships

Award covers costs for eight semesters at Duke

Eleven incoming first-year students from North and South Carolina have been awarded the prestigious Benjamin N. Duke Memorial Scholarship at Duke University. The award covers full tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for eight semesters at Duke.The award is given to students from the two states who have demonstrated high academic achievement, a commitment to community service and potential for leadership. The full value of each scholarship is estimated to be more than $260,000 over four years.The scholarship also includes service and leadership development activities and two summer programs, one in the Carolinas and one abroad, during the recipients' undergraduate careers at Duke.The scholarships were established by The Duke Endowment to honor Benjamin Newton Duke, one of the university's founders.The Class of 2020 recipients are:-- Daisy Almonte of Turkey, North Carolina, a graduate of Union High School and daughter of Maria Lopez and Victor Almonte.-- Breanna Bradham of Summerton, North Carolina, a graduate of Laurence Manning Academy and daughter of Agnes H. Bradham and Thomas M. Bradham.-- Sarah Briggs of Sanford, North Carolina, a graduate of Lee County High School and daughter of Kathleen Briggs and John Briggs.-- Jordan Burstion of Fayetteville, North Carolina, a graduate of Jack Britt High School and daughter of Arniese Burstion and Edgar Burstion.-- Holly Holder of Kinston, North Carolina, a graduate of North Lenoir High School and daughter of Cathy Travis Holder and Lee Holder.-- Tyler Kopp of Southport, North Carolina, a graduate of South Brunswick High School and son of Kristy Kopp and Richard Kopp.-- Joel Mire of Fairview, North Carolina, a graduate of Asheville Christian Academy and son of Jill Mire and Richard Mire.-- Olivia Simpson of Durham, North Carolina,  a graduate of Middle College High School and daughter of Jennifer Falchi and Dennis Simpson.-- Dorothy Smith of Columbia, South Carolina, a graduate of Spring Valley High and daughter of Nancy Smith and Bradley Smith.-- Benjamin Succop Jr. of Morganton, North Carolina, a graduate of Freedom High School and son of Sara Lou Succop and Benjamin Succop Sr.-- Anuj Thakkar of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, a graduate of Raleigh Charter and son of Madhvi Thakkar and Maitreya Thakkar.For more information about the incoming class of B.N.
