Six Selected for Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholarships

Award covers full tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for eight semesters at Duke

Six incoming first-year students have been awarded the Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholarship at Duke University, which covers full tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for eight semesters at Duke.

The full value of each scholarship is estimated at more than $260,000 over four years.

The award is given to students who embody the qualities of Reginaldo Howard, Duke’s first African-American student government president, including a commitment to academic achievement, leadership, community service and social justice.

The Class of 2020 recipients are:

-- Cyan Jade DeVeaux of Spring Valley, New York, a graduate of Ramapo High School and daughter of Lorna DeVeaux and Andre DeVeaux.

-- Matthew Gayed of Riverside, California, a graduate of John W. North High School and son of Mary Nashed and Maged Gayed.

-- Christopher Colin Grant of Brooklyn, New York, a graduate of Stuyvesant High School and son of Michele Cohen and Wayne Grant.

-- Daniel Osei Ntim of Cornelius, North Carolina, a graduate of Southlake Christian Academy and son of Sally Kwarteng-Ntim and William Ntim.

-- Nii Soja Mensah Torto of Gainesville, Florida, a graduate of Eastside High School and son of Rita Torto and Baldwyn Torto.

-- Kennedy Ware of Tampa, Florida, a graduate of C. Leon King High School and daughter of Renee Ware and Tony Ware.
