Duke Officials Monitoring Bombing at Istanbul Airport

Duke officials are closely monitoring the tragic bombings today at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport in Turkey.

We have been in direct contact with all known students, faculty and staff who are traveling in Istanbul and confirmed that none of them were harmed in the incident. However, there may be others traveling in the area who are not reflected in the Duke Travel Registry. If you know of any faculty, students or staff members who may be in Istanbul and in need of intenational support resources, please contact Christy Parrish-Michels, manager for Global Administrative Support, at christy.parrish@duke.edu or (919) 684-2910.

The U.S. State Department has issued a travel warning for travelers to review personal security plans and remain vigilant at all times, especially if attending large sporting events, theatres, open markets, aviation services, transportation systems, and public venues where people congregate as well as religious sites and high-profile events. The warning also notes travelers should avoid travel to southeastern Turkey at this time.

Support for any Duke student, faculty or staff member abroad on a Duke program is available through the university’s travel assistance program. For more information, visit https://www.internationalsos.com/MasterPortal/default.aspx?membnum=11BSGC000072.

Thank you for your assistance.
