Duke Recreation Centers to Close for Renovations

Brodie and Wilson recreation centers to briefly close for summer cleaning and repairs

Duke students and employees using Duke’s recreation centers will want to plan for closures in May and August.

Brodie Recreation Center on East Campus will close May 16 through May 22 for carpet shampooing and cleaning of locker rooms and restrooms. The wood floors of the basketball courts, multipurpose rooms and classroom will be refinished, and the front desk area will be painted.

Wilson Recreation Center on West Campus will close August 7 through August 20 for entrance painting, updating the upholstery on furniture and in the weight room, detailed facility cleaning, wood floor refinishing, and carpet shampooing. There will also be digital clocks installed throughout the recreation center.

Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion will close August 7 through August 21 to drain the pool and clean the deck.

“It’s hard to get deep cleaning in when the buildings are getting used throughout the fall and spring,” said Felicia Tittle, executive director of Duke Recreation and Physical Education. “When we close, we try to do so much in a short period of time.”
