Memorial Service Planned for Dr. William Anlyan on Feb. 6

Service moved to Baldwin Auditorium to accomodate larger numbers expected

A memorial service will be held for Dr. William G. Anlyan, former dean of the School of Medicine and chancellor for health affairs, on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 5-6 p.m.

Anlyan’s life and 40-year career at Duke will be celebrated in Baldwin Auditorium, located on Duke's East Campus. Directions to the parking lot are provided below. An accessible drop-off location will be available at the Baldwin Loop off of W. Markham Ave. 

Anlyan, who began his career at Duke as a medical intern and went on to become professor of surgery, dean of the School of Medicine and the first chancellor for health affairs for Duke University Health System, died Jan. 17 at the age of 90.

Traveling Southbound on Highway 147

  • Head east on NC-147 S/ (1.0 miles)
  • Take the Swift Ave exit toward Ninth St/ (0.3 miles)
  • Turn left onto Swift Ave. (0.2 miles)
  • Continue onto Broad St. (0.3 miles)
  • Turn right onto W Markham Ave. (0.4 miles)
  • General parking for Dr. Anlyan's Memorial Service will be available off W. Markham Ave. at Asbury United Methodist Church and Brodie Dr.
  • For ADA Drop-off, continue on W. Markham Ave. and turn right into the Baldwin Loop

Traveling Northbound on Highway 147

  • Head west on NC-147 N. and take Exit 14 for Swift/Broad St.
  • Turn right onto Swift St.
  • Continue onto Broad St. (0.3 miles)
  • Turn right onto W. Markham Ave. (0.4 miles)
  • General parking for Dr. Anlyan's Memorial Service will be available off W. Markham Ave. at Asbury United Methodist Church and Brodie Dr.
  • For ADA Drop-off, continue on W. Markham Ave. and turn right into the Baldwin Loop

Traveling West on W. Main St.

  • Head west on W. Main St.
  • Turn right onto N Buchanan Blvd/
  • Turn left at the sign for Dr. Anlyan's Memorial Service General Parking onto Campus Union Dr.
  • For ADA Drop-off, continue on N. Buchanan Blvd., turn left at W. Markham Ave. and then left into the Baldwin Loop

Traveling East on Erwin Rd.

  • Head east on Erwin Rd. (0.1 miles)
  • Continue onto 9th St. (0.2 miles)
  • Turn right onto W. Markham Ave. (0.3 miles)
  • General parking for Dr. Anlyan's Memorial Service will be available off W. Markham Ave. at Asbury United Methodist Church and Brodie Dr.
