Welcome to the Week at Duke in 60 Seconds.

A new scholarship program at Duke starting next fall will offer support for first-generation students and those from under-resourced high schools. Qualified students will receive full financial aid and participate in programs throughout the school year.

Last Thursday, President Brodhead announced that men’s basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski will give the commencement address for Duke’s Class of 2016. Coach K is a popular speaker on leadership and motivation.

Warren Grill, a professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Nandan Lad, a neurosurgeon, are reprogramming devices used to treat chronic pain. Their innovative approach uses new stimulation patterns that will decrease the amount of pain that patients experience.

Finally, Nicholas School students have started the Green Roof and Orchard Workforce to maintain a garden on the roof of Environment Hall. Students and employees can host events at the garden and get hands-on experience with gardening.
