NCCU Chief Information Officer to Speak on Diversity

Leah Kraus to conclude “Diversify IT” series at Duke on Dec. 10

North Carolina Central University’s chief information officer will speak about “Engagement, Reflection & Diversity” on Dec. 10 as part of Duke’s Diversify IT series.

Leah Kraus will address subtle gender bias in the workplace during the free event from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Full Frame Theater at the American Tobacco Campus.

Her talk is the fourth and final installment in a series of diversity discussions that began at Duke in April. The discussions are hosted by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and facilitated by the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE).

Kraus was appointed as NCCU’s chief information officer in February 2014. Prior to joining NCCU, she was the associate vice chancellor for services for seven years at the University of North Carolina Wilmington as associate vice chancellor for services for seven years and as the interim chief information officer since 2011.

Nationwide, women and minorities are underrepresented in information technology. The”Diversify IT” series is designed to explore why disparities exist and how Duke can address them.

Scooter Freeney, Diversify IT organizer and OIT’s director of human resources, said the series “aims to create an open space to discuss diversity and inclusion, while providing relevant and balanced research related to IT diversity.”
