Welcome to the Week at Duke in 60 Seconds.

On World Food Day, more than 100 Duke students filled about 3,000 bags of soy and rice to be sent to crisis relief groups around the world. Members of the nonprofit Stop Hunger Now believe that world hunger can end in their lifetime.

Patrisse Cullors, the founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, spoke Wednesday on campus. Cullors challenged the audience to transform society into a world where all individuals are treated equally.

Duke’s yearlong celebration of John Hope Franklin’s 100th birthday culminates in a symposium November 5th through 7th.  Speakers will address themes including slavery and the lingering stains of racism.

Finally, the Blue Devil Halloween Photo Contest is back! Submit your photo by November 2nd, and the photo with the most likes on Facebook will win! Prizes are involved, so start getting creative!
