Duke in Pics: Students, Police Glow in the Dark

Laser tag, dancing and more at weekend campus outreach event

Above, Whitney McKoy, an officer with the Duke University Police Department, dances with Duke students while playing an interactive video game Aug. 30 on East Campus. Along with McKoy, four other members of the department joined nearly 300 students for an evening of food and games, including laser tag throughout the quad.

McKoy said outreach events are pivotal for Duke Police, because the events offer an opportunity to interact in a casual way, share details about life and get to know each other better.

“It’s really good for Duke Police to have relationships with students because we work so closely together,” she said. “We want to be able to gain the trust of our community so they’ll feel comfortable coming to us when there is a problem or they don’t feel safe.”
