Do you know a Duke faculty or staff member who fosters diversity in your department, or a team that has worked together successfully to complete a task? Nominate them for a Teamwork or Diversity Award, both annual awards that recognize employees who advance Duke’s values and important departmental or university-wide projects. The nomination deadline is Sept. 11. Scooter Freeney, human resources director for Duke’s Office of Information Technology (OIT), was a 2014 Diversity Award recipient. He started an internship program in OIT to encourage more black, Latino and female involvement in the IT field. “It is humbling and encouraging to know that the work being done is impactful, appreciated and supported,” Freeney said of the awards. “This type of acknowledgement and recognition goes a long way and validates why Duke is a top institution and the best place to work.”Awards will be presented at Sarah P. Duke Gardens in November. Nomination forms can be found on the Duke Human Resources website, under the "Blue Ribbon Awards" section.
