Two senior Duke administrators have been reappointed to new five-year terms, President Richard H. Brodhead announced.

Pamela Bernard, vice president and general counsel, and Tallman Trask III, executive vice president, were reviewed by separate committees of faculty, administrators and trustees, who presented recommendations to Brodhead.

“Duke is fortunate to benefit from the wisdom and experience of Pam Bernard and Tallman Trask,” Brodhead said.  “Their reappointments ensure that they will continue to make important contributions to Duke’s leadership team, and I’m grateful for their service.”

Bernard will serve a third term. She joined Duke as vice president and general counsel in 2006 and was last reappointed in 2010. In her role, she is responsible for a variety of legal matters, including student and employment issues, health law, research issues, tax-exempt organizations, athletics, corporate matters and coordinating litigation for the university.

The university's principal administrative and fiscal officer, Trask has served as executive vice president since 1995 and was last reviewed in the 2009-10 academic year.

Trask's office oversees a vast array of financial and non-academic services, including the budget, financial affairs, procurement, debt, campus planning, architecture, maintenance and construction, real estate, human resources, academic and administrative computing, audit, safety and security, parking and transportation.

As part of the reports, the committees gathered comments from members of the Duke community and reviewed each candidate's performance over the past five years.
