Ten Students From the Carolinas Receive B.N. Duke Scholarships

Award covers full tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for eight semesters at Duke

Ten incoming first-year students from North and South Carolina have been awarded the prestigious Benjamin N. Duke Memorial Scholarship at Duke University. The award covers full tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for eight semesters at Duke.Students from the Carolinas who have demonstrated high academic achievement, a commitment to community service and potential for leadership are eligible for this scholarship. The full value of each scholarship is estimated to be more than $250,000 over four years.The B.N. Duke Scholarship also includes service and leadership development activities and two summer programs, one in the Carolinas and one abroad. The scholarships were established by The Duke Endowment to honor Benjamin Newton Duke, one of the university’s founders.The Class of 2019 recipients are:-- Erick Daniel Aguilar Ramos of Mount Olive, N.C., a graduating senior at North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, N.C., and son of Lilian Argentina Ramos and Evelio Erasmo Aguilar;-- Adam Thomas Bullock of Huntersville, N.C., a graduating senior at Lake Norman Charter School in Huntersville, and son of Sarah McGuire Bullock;-- Rachel Margaret Cohn of Chapel Hill, N.C., a graduating senior at North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, N.C., and daughter of Christine and Dov Cohn; -- Vishnu Teja Gottiparthy of Cary, N.C., a graduating senior at North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, N.C., and son of Sudha and Ravi Gottiparthy; -- Anne Elizabeth Janick of Fort Mill, S.C., a graduating senior at Fort Mill High School in Fort Mill, and daughter of Karin and Dan Janick;-- Nia Yvette Moore of Mint Hill, N.C., a graduating senior at Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte, N.C., and daughter of Nina and Darryl Moore; -- Judith Sanchez Soriano of Wake Forest, N.C., a graduating senior at Wake Forest High School, and daughter of Angelina Soriano and Juan Acevedo; -- Cullen Blair Tyndall of Goldsboro, N.C., a graduating senior at Eastern Wayne High School in Goldsboro, and son of Lynne and Blair Tyndall; -- Kathryn Lynn Watkins of Winston-Salem, N.C., a graduating senior at West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, N.C., and daughter of Lynn and Gordon Watkins;-- Qiang Zhang of Lexington, S.C., a graduating senior at River Bluff High School in Lexington, and daughter of Fan Hu and Bin Zhang.For more information about the B.N.
