When Libby Carver wants to get away, she doesn’t need to travel far from her home in Graham, about 30 miles west of Duke’s campus.

For Carver and her family, it’s a simple trip back to Durham for an overnight stay at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, where they receive two free stays each year courtesy of a “Classic” membership with the historic hotel.

“It makes us feel like we’re on vacation but without having to travel,” said Carver, a clinical associate at Duke’s School of Nursing. “The rooms are impeccable, there’s an indoor pool and hot tub, and it’s a great stay no matter the time of year.”

From now until May 15, all Duke faculty and staff can get pampered in the same way with a special discount to become an Executive Club member at the Washington Duke. A new "Classic" membership costs $369, but Duke staff and faculty pay $277 through May 15. The deal is offered by PERQS, Duke's employee discount program.

The special rate provides savings to Duke employees, who can dine at the Washington Duke’s AAA Four Diamond, Forbes Travel Guide 2015 Four-Star Award restaurant and stay in spacious rooms that have also earned the hotel a AAA Four Diamond 15 years in a row.

In addition to two free guest room nights during the yearlong membership, other benefits include up to 50 percent off meals, a complimentary small meeting or dining room rental, one complimentary Saturday Brunch voucher for up to two people, plus invitations to menu previews, theater performances, sporting events, and more.

“The two nights at the hotel more than pays for the membership already,” Carver said. “But when you dine with two people, it’s like you’re getting one meal free.”

A complete list of benefits can be found on the Washington Duke Inn website. As part of the PERQS offer, an additional discount is also available for the Washington Duke’s “Platinum” membership for $899, down from $1,049. That membership offers deeper discounts and perks,.

The discount is available for new members only and membership must be renewed annually. In 2015, the “Classic” option costs $299 to renew and $949 for “Platnium.”

“I enjoy being able to use the perks to take donors and others to lunch and easily book meeting spaces to house speakers who come to Duke Gardens,” said Bill LeFevre, executive director of Sarah P. Duke Gardens. “The benefits I use are far more than the cost of membership.”

To sign up for the special rate, new members can contact the Executive Club office at (919) 313.9604 and identify as a Duke employee. A valid DukeCard ID is necessary to complete purchase.
