Alex Lark: Filming an Intimate Moment of Dance

Alex Lark is a senior visual arts major with hopes of pursuing a career in filmmaking in Los Angeles.  For his visual arts capstone project with professor Bill Seaman, Lark collaborated with student dancer Maurice Dowell.

This dance collaboration, “Unspoken," was created in the dance studios on Duke's East Campus. Lark directed and produced the film while the dance was performed and choreographed by Dowell.

"There is a delicate and beautiful voyeurism in entering a room as an invisible being," Lark said of the work. "Just floating into a space unnoticed as the performance unfolds before you. Together, Maurice and I created a dance piece that breathes by itself. An intimate moment that starts out still, grows and then disappears as an ephemeral moment."
