Working@Duke Wins Best Print Newsletter

Duke employee publication also recognized for ‘best long feature story’

Working@Duke, the university’s print and digital news channels for staff and faculty, won two awards this week in Ragan’s 2014 Employee Communications Awards.

Working@Duke was recognized for “Best Print Newsletter,” and the award for “Best Long Feature Article” went to Working@Duke for the October 2014 cover story, What's Your Health Worth?

Hundreds of entries from around the world were submitted in all award categories, according to Chicago-based Ragan, the leading publisher of corporate communications, public relations, and leadership development newsletters.

“The work we saw in this year’s program was better than ever,” the Ragan announcement said. “The entries demonstrated the many extraordinary ways that internal communicators are informing and engaging employees.”

This Working@Duke cover story was timed for Duke’s annual open enrollment for medical benefits in October 2014. “The story of one employee at Duke University who had opted to skip benefits coverage, then was diagnosed with cancer, served as the impetus for the HR team to tell not only her story, but the stories of three other employees, each addressing another dimension of benefits.” Read more.
