Welcome to the Week at Duke in 60 Seconds.

A new study from the Duke Lemur Center finds that a pregnant lemur’s scent depends in part on whether she’s carrying a girl or a boy. This is the first evidence in any species that a mother’s scent can reveal the sex of her baby.

The “Unpark Yourself Challenge” at Duke begins on March 16. Employees and grad students can register in teams and compete by using sustainable options for commuting. Prizes include an ELF recumbent hybrid bike and an Apple Watch.

Physicists at Duke University are using a computerized 3D rendering to simulate what happens to sand and snow in earthquakes and avalanches. They hope to better understand early warning signs for these disasters.

Finally, construction has begun on a new entry to the Bryan Center. The new glass-encased entry will be much taller and give greater prominence to the primary building entry.
