Viennese Ball, Jazz Ensembles Highlight a Valentine's Weekend of Music

Viennese Ball

Students at the Duke Wind Symphony's Viennese Ball.

Music will be plentiful during Valentine's Day weekend with two traditional Duke events that will give everyone a chance to waltz and tap their toes.

The Duke Wind Symphony's Viennese Ball will be held 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at The Freeman Center on Duke's Central Campus. The symphony, conducted by native Austrian Verena Mösenbichler-Bryant, has raised funds for the unit for 41 years.

The elegant evening includes food, music, and Viennese dance with a live waltz orchestra, polka band and promenade. Authentic Viennese dance lessons are included. Dress is semi-formal to formal. Join the Duke Wind Symphony in its 41st annual fundraising event as we celebrate the Viennese tradition.

Tickets are $12 for individuals and $20 for two.

On Sunday, the Duke Jazz Ensemble gets into the fun for the Valentine's Weekend Jazz Concert at 3 p.m. in Baldwin Auditorium. The annual concert features the Duke University, North Carolina Central University & UNC-Chapel Hill Jazz Ensembles.

Tickets are $10 but are free to senior citizens, students and youths age 17 and under.

Tickets for both concerts can be purchased online or by calling 684-4444.
