Dates Set for Family Weekend 2015

Family Weekend 2015 will be held Fri., Oct. 30, through Sun., Nov. 1, Duke officials announced today. Family Weekend is an annual tradition designed for parents, guardians, siblings, and friends of undergraduates to reconnect with students during the fall semester.

The events held during Family Weekend reflect a broad diversity of programming and experiential opportunities.  Among the events planned include academic lectures by some of Duke’s most distinguished faculty; cultural and art highlights; and campus tours. This year, Duke also is pleased to host a home football game against the University of Miami on Sat., Oct. 31.

''During family weekend, we attended seminars on the most up-to-date events on campus -- from Greek Life to Duke Global Education -- and learned about the latest in technology and progress,'' said Beth Gabay, a Duke parent. "We walked the gardens, visited the Nasher Museum, went to see the Cameron Crazies in action and experienced life as a Blue Devil. The best part is seeing the visible pride that these students carry with them on a daily basis. Going back [home] becomes easier just knowing that our son is exactly where he’s supposed to be.''

The schedule also allows time for family members to connect with other parents to exchange stories and insights. To many, interacting with other parents and family members proves to be the most informative and valuable aspect of the weekend.

''I loved having the opportunity to meet my son's and daughter's friends and their families," said Penny Fleming, a former Duke parent. "A special part of the weekend was going out to dinner with other students and their families. It just served to highlight the strong feeling of Duke community and that we are all part of one big family."

The Family Weekend schedule and registration will become available during the summer. If you have questions, please contact the Parent and Family Programs office at 919-681-2455 or join the Duke Parents and Family Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/DukeParents
