The Bulldozers Come to Wade

Wade Constructions

The bulldozers didn't even wait for the players to leave the field following Duke's 41-21 victory over Wake Forest Saturday night in Wallace Wade Stadium. The 85-year-old stadium is going to be modernized that is part of a $100 million upgrade of university athletic facilities. Construction has already begun on the first phase of the project, in which the famed track will be torn out and the playing field lowered by five feet.

Following the victory, football coach David Cutcliffe, Athletic Director Kevin White, Cynthia Brodhead and others took the first digs on the turf. Fans were then invited to take a part of the Wade turf home with them.

The construction will be completed in time for the 2015 football season, but commencement will be moved to another iconic Durham stadium.
