Duke Orchestra Celebrates Richard Strauss

Students mark the 150th anniversary of composer's birth

Harry Davidson will conduct the Duke Symphony Orchestra Dec. 3.

To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Richard Strauss, the Duke Symphony Orchestra will be joined by Russian-American soprano Dina Kuznetsova in a program of some of the composer's greatest works.

The concert will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in Baldwin Auditorium. The performance is free.

Kuznetsova has performed in many of the world's greatest opera houses, from the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Berlin's Staatsoper unter den Linden, Wiener Staatsoper and Munich's Bayerische Staatsoper to the San Francisco and Chicago Lyric Operas.

Harry Davidson will conduct the orchestra in a program that includes Strauss' "Tod und Verklärung (Death and Transfiguration), Op. 24;" "Vier Letzte Lieder (Four Last Songs);" and excerpts from "Der Rosenkavalier."
