Welcome to the Week at Duke in 60 Seconds.

Last week, the Duke community celebrated National Coming Out Day with a gathering in the Bryan Center Plaza. Duke will host a series of other events related to LGBTQ history at the university through the rest of this semester.

Ever wondered about the camel statue by Gross Hall? It’s in honor of Knut Schmidt-Nielson, a biology professor who studied the physiology of camel noses.

A new video series called Ideas that Move the World Forward features short, inspiring talks by some of Duke’s most innovative thinkers. To see the videos, visit dukeforward.duke.edu.

Finally, the Duke Swimming and Diving team begins its home season on October 25th against UNC-Wilmington. The event is free and open to the public. The divers have big shoes to fill following the graduation of Nick McCrory, who won four national championship diving titles.
