The Duke Farmers Market will offer its final harvest for faculty and staff in the coming weeks.

The market – which has been on an adjusted schedule since July – returns for weekly events throughout September, concluding with the final market on Sept. 26. Duke community members can visit the market between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Fridays throughout the month to find a variety of fruits, vegetables, freshly baked bread and more.

Seven local farms and vendors will be a part of the market, which takes place between the Bryan Research and Nanaline H. Duke buildings off Research Drive.

“We’ve had such a wonderful season with hundreds of customers visiting us each week,” said Diana Monroe, health education specialist with LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee wellness program that sponsors the market. “The market offers easy access to delicious foods for our faculty and staff, so we hope they’ll take advantage before our season ends.

Market visitors can also grab lunch to-go from restaurants like Cosmic Cantina and NOSH@JoRae Café. During the final four markets, LIVE FOR LIFE staff will share free recipes and nutrition education plans featuring locally grown produce:

  • Sept. 5 – Tomatoes, recipe: salsa
  • Sept. 12 – Hot peppers, recipe: hot pepper vinegar
  • Sept. 19 – Peanuts and soybeans, recipe: soypeanut butter
  • Sept. 26 – Pumpkins, recipe: sweet and salty pumpkin seeds

Even though the farmers market is ending, Duke community members can sign up for the Duke Mobile Farmers Market. The mobile market delivers goods for pick-up at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens between 4 and 6 p.m. every Tuesday. Visit the mobile market's website for more information.
