New Online Map Highlights a World of Duke Programs and Expertise

The Office of Global Strategy and Programs (OGSP) has launched a new interactive map highlighting Duke faculty research, teaching, and expertise in countries around the world. Created in partnership with the Office of Global Communications and the Duke Web Services team, the map mines data stored in the new Scholars@Duke database and represents the global reach of Duke scholarship in a visual format.

“The map is one of several ways our office is working to increase awareness of Duke’s global engagement and make connections among people and groups on campus with common interests,” said Eve Duffy, director of programs and initiatives in OGSP.

Faculty members can add or update their presence on the global map by editing their profiles in the Scholars@Duke database.

The new global map is one of the new features of an updated Global Duke website, which consolidates global resources for the Duke community, highlights global efforts, and lists news stories with updates about research and learning experiences around the world.

The site also now provides a breakdown of Duke’s global programs and activities across nine world regions.  A page for each region highlights university initiatives, student engagement, and academic programs and opportunities in each region.

“As Duke becomes more and more global, it is important for us to communicate both externally and within our own community about Duke’s global engagement,” said Laura Brinn, executive director of global communications.  “We hope the map, and the entire site, will help forge additional connections among Duke community members, and partners, with global interests and expertise.”
