Welcome to the Week at Duke University in 60 Seconds.

Welcome back, Dukies! It’s the first week of classes here at Duke. The last 10 days has seen the arrival of the Class of 2018 and a Forever Duke block party.

Duke Kunshan University is also in its first week—EVER. Last week, the convocation ceremony officially marked its opening. The program featured Chinese and American cultural and academic traditions.

Duke researchers, with the help of a 13-year-old girl, have discovered that a strain of fungus deadly to HIV/AIDS patients actually grows on trees. The girl sent samples from her science project to Duke for DNA sequencing and the specimens matched those from infected patients.

Finally, Duke football “kicks off” its season with a game against Elon Saturday. The football team is coming off its most successful season in decades. Go Blue Devils!
