The Duke Fitness Club, a program that offers employee discounts to health and recreation facilities across central North Carolina, is expanding its reach within Durham.

LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke’s employee wellness program that oversees the Fitness Club, today begins a partnership with the Levin Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Durham. The facility at 1937 W. Cornwallis Road is open seven days a week with services that include pools, a fitness center, exercise classes, free childcare and more.

By signing up through the Duke Fitness Club, faculty and staff receive a waived $150 initiation fee and can have monthly membership dues taken from their direct deposit paycheck. Monthly costs, which include all-inclusive access to the JCC, range from $60 for an individual to $97 for a family with two adults and dependents.

The Levin Jewish Community Center is open to all Duke employees and does not discriminate on the basis of religion, race, color, sex, origin, age, veteran status, disability, family structure or sexual orientation.

“With a diverse employee population who work different schedules and are spread all over, we know how important it is to make exercise options easy,” said Julie Joyner, manager of LIVE FOR LIFE. “Expanding our reach will make it more convenient for employees to find what works for them.”

The JCC is one of 26 member facilities of the Duke Fitness Club program, which has partnered with various gyms and recreation centers throughout the Triangle. A full list can be found on the Fitness Club website, including a map. Sign-up opportunities can include individual and family plans and discounts vary by location.

Nearly  3,000 Duke staff, faculty and family members are enrolled in the Duke Fitness Club, which is open to all Duke employees and their spouses, same-sex partners and dependents. Sign-up for local exercise facilities can be done online or with the help of LIVE FOR LIFE staff.

Registering through the Duke Fitness Club requires at least a three-month commitment, but after that period, participation is available on a month-to-month basis.
